VMware HealthAnalyzer

I used this tool for the first time such years ago. It’s very useful to analyze a customer environment following the VMware best practices.

VMware HealthAnalyzer is able to validate a VMware infrastructure, create an inventory and follow raccomandations, so you can have an assessment & analysis documentation to use as a start point for tuning and improving it.

Now, the last version of VHA is 5.5.7. Last three versions introduces critical fixes vulnerability in Apache Log4j library.

In response to the industry-wide critical issue regarding the Open Source Apache Software Foundation log4j Java logging component, a new version of HealthAnalyzer has been released to mitigate the critical vulnerabilities identified in CVE-2021-4428, CVE-2021-45046 and CVE-2021-45105. These vulnerabilities are a 10/10 and 7.5/10 on the severity scale, and many companies will be urgently patching to address this issue.

The version 5.5.4 relased on 10 may 2021 added VMware vSphere 7.0 support for collection and analyis.

VMware HealthAnalyzer provides consistent, scalable data collection:

  • vSphere – Data can be collected from a specified VMware vCenter Server® and other systems within the vSphere infrastructure. Supported versions are vCenter 6.x and vCenter 7.0.
  • Horizon – Data for analysis of desktop systems can be captured from a View Connection Server, App Volumes Manager and all of the systems with related data within the vSphere infrastructure. Supported versions are Horizon 7.x.
  • NSX for vSphere – Data can be collected from VMware NSX ManagerTM (standalone or Cross- vCenter Server setup),VMware NSX ControllerTM and NSX EsxiTM instances. Supported versions are NSX 6.x.

A project with data can be exported to a file, or a previously captured project with data can be imported. A report in Microsoft Word format can be created for review and delivery to a customer.

Where can I download it?

How to use VMware HealthAnalyzer

I’m used to intall a OVA version of VHA on the customer VMware environment because it is very easy. But you can use a only Java version of VHA on your server, follow the requirements!

There is a Collector-only version. It is a good chose if you want to collect more infrastructure info on a single server.

Now you can add a new project, add your enviroment information and connect VHA to vCenter Server and other appliances.

Follow the great guide you can found on VMware Professional Services to understand how the project works and how you can improve it.

At the very end you can generate your assessment & analysis report and start you tuning and remediation journey!
